Gov Okpebholo Signs Bill Extending Magistrates’ Retirement Age from 60 to 65

The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has signed bill raising the retirement age of magistrates from 60 to 65 years.

The Governor equally signed another bill increasing the membership of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Commission (EDOSOPADEC) from seven to 10.

Speaking after assenting to the bills, Governor Okpebholo emphasised that extending the retirement age for magistrates would enhance judicial efficiency and leverage the expertise of experienced magistrates for improved justice administration in the state.

He highlighted that the expansion of EDOSOPADEC’s membership was aimed at improving governance, representation, and operational efficiency within the agency. The governor assured that the move would lead to better management of Edo State’s oil resources and foster economic growth.

Both bills, which were recently passed by the legislature, align with the state government’s vision of strengthening judicial integrity and optimizing resource benefits for the people.
