The Labour Party has officially responded to the resignation of Dr Doyin Okupe, who served as the Campaign Director of its Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections.
Parallel Facts reports that Okupe tendered his resignation from the party on Monday citing ideological differences that emerged after the 2023 general elections.
In a statement, Mr Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, acknowledged Okupe’s departure, emphasizing that the former spokesperson for ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan has consistently aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Despite the ideological contrasts leading to Okupe’s exit, the party expressed gratitude for his contributions to the last election. They equally extended good wishes to Okupe in his future political pursuits, acknowledging that while they saw the resignation letter on social media, they have not received it officially as of Monday.
Ifoh articulated, “We wish him very well. We want to say that he is saying that he is leaving because he is a Liberal Democrat, while the Labour Party is a Social Democrat.
“It is also a good thing because he is not expected to be in a territory where his ideological bent will be confused or different. He has always been a PDP man, so the Labour Party expects that he will return to anywhere he wants to be.
“We wish him all the best in his future political pursuits. Though we saw the letter on social media, we have not received it officially,” Ifoh told Daily Trust on Monday.
