Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili finished sixth in the women’s 200 meters final at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old clocked 22.24 seconds, placing her behind Gabrielle Thomas of the United States, who won gold with a time of 21.83 seconds. Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred claimed the silver medal with 22.08 seconds, while USA’s Brittany Brown took bronze.
Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ofili qualified for the final with the third-best time from the semi-finals, but struggled against her competitors in the final.
She became the first Nigerian to reach the final of the women’s 200 meters at the Olympics since Mary Onyali in Atlanta ’96.
Despite a strong start, Ofili faded in the final 100 meters of the race.
Her attention will now turn to the women’s 4×100 relay, scheduled to begin on Thursday
