Ondo Residents Accuse Reps’ Member of Distributing Spoiled Rice During Christmas

Residents in Ondo State, particularly in the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, have raised concerns over the quality of rice distributed by Prince Jimi Odimayo, a member of the House of Representatives, during the recent Yuletide season.

Videos circulating on social media platforms depict discontented locals expressing dissatisfaction with the rice, citing its poor quality and potential health hazards.

According to a resident, “the rice is terribly bad and dangerous for consumption. It is not good at all. Look at the rice someone who wants to be governor is sharing. It is full of stones. The stones in it are even more than the rice.

“In fact, we couldn’t eat the one we cooked yesterday. Take a look at the cooked one and the uncooked one, both are obviously injurious to health if consumed.”

In response to these allegations, Victor Adedeji, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Jimi Odimayo, released a statement refuting the claims.

Adedeji dismissed the circulated video as lacking credibility and suggested potential political motives behind its dissemination.

The statement defended the quality of the distributed rice, asserting that it underwent stringent quality checks from reputable suppliers before being distributed.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by residents and any misunderstandings stemming from the circulated video, the statement assured the public of Odimayo’s willingness to address constituents’ worries.

“Hon. Odimayo is open to clarifying any concerns raised by constituents and remains committed to addressing their needs effectively.

“The public should also note that efforts are ongoing to reach out to additional stakeholders for their perspective on this matter, and further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds,” the statement assured.
