Despite the arrest of three suspects by the Ogun State Police Command, armed robbers have again attacked students of the Gateway Polytechnic, Sapaade, killing one and injuring nine others.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning at the Larufi area of Ode, where some of the students reside off-campus. The robbers reportedly broke into the students’ rooms, shooting sporadically and carting away their valuables.
Some of them captured the aftermath of the attack on their phones and shared the videos on Instagram. The videos showed shattered doors, broken windows and walls riddled with bullets.
This is the second time in a week that the students of the polytechnic have been terrorized by the robbers, who also raped some of the female students during their previous operation.
Last Tuesday, the pupils and the indigenes of the communities staged a protest against the insecurity around the institution, demanding that the police should protect them from the hoodlums.
The management of the polytechnic also shut down the school for three days to restore calm and prevent further violence.

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, met with the school leaders and assured them that the police would intensify their efforts to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
However, the latest attack has cast doubt on the effectiveness of the police’s response and the safety of the students in the area.
The police have not yet issued any statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
