Public sentiment has emerged on social media as Nigerians call on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to adopt Peter Obi as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections. At the center of the latest push is education entrepreneur Alex Onyia, who described Obi as “hope” for millions across the country.
“What Peter Obi symbolizes is HOPE. When people see him, they see hope. If he is not the candidate for ADC, then it’s dead instantly,” Onyia wrote in a post on his official X account on Saturday.

The post has since triggered a wave of support, as netizens echoed his view that Obi represents the integrity, vision, and sincerity missing from Nigeria’s current political landscape.
Hon. Ayodele Mcawal replied, “Peter Obi isn’t just a candidate; he’s a symbol of hope, integrity, and what’s still possible in this country… If ADC truly wants to inspire Nigerians and win in 2027, there’s only one name that unites both heart and head—Peter Obi.”
Jane Bond (@AdaIgbo00) went further, warning the ADC that, “If ADC sidelines him, they’re not just losing a candidate, they’re losing the people. No Obi, no spark. No movement, no mandate.”
Some supporters also pushed back at any suggestion that Obi could serve as a vice-presidential candidate again. One user wrote, “Even if PO is VP, the votes will stay at home,” suggesting the electorate may boycott the ballot if Obi is not given a leading role.

Others expressed concern that efforts may be underway to co-opt Obi into an alliance that contradicts his values. @cryptodailyshow stated, “We are not against Tinubu; we are against corruption and bad governance. Armwrestling PO to support bad governance will only make him walk without his integrity, and that integrity is what makes him stand out today.”
The discussion has also stirred fresh reminders of ethnic tensions. @b6ab9478af0f444 questioned whether “we have overcome the wicked vow they made that no Igbo man again will be head of state Nigeria,” raising the issue of Igbophobia in Nigeria’s political environment.
The rising online campaign reflects a growing urgency among Obi’s base to ensure he remains central to the 2027 conversation, especially as opposition parties continue to strategize around forming a united front against Tinubu’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
