Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), located in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has declared that starting with its 34th convocation, which starts this week and culminates on Friday, January 31, students would take home their transcripts in addition to their degree certificates.
Professor Ayodeji Agboola, the university’s vice chancellor, made this announcement during the press conference for the convocation on Thursday.
Along with the transcripts and commemorative plaques, Professor Agboola stated that the certificates were already signed and would be given to the graduates at the convocation ceremony.
A total of 6,209 undergraduate students, comprising 5,793 regular and 416 part-time students, are set to graduate during the 2023/2024 convocation ceremony of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU). Additionally, 741 postgraduate students will be conferred with diplomas and degrees, including 571 PGD/Master’s recipients and 170 PhDs.
The Vice-Chancellor announced that 115 students will graduate with First Class honours, marking a 16.16% increase compared to the 99 recorded in the previous academic session. Furthermore, 1,845 students will graduate with Second Class (Upper Division), 3,044 with Second Class (Lower Division), 688 with Third Class, and 35 with a Pass grade. Meanwhile, 66 unclassified graduates from the medical programme will also receive their degrees.
A key highlight of the convocation programme will be the Convocation Lecture titled ‘TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures, and the Future,’ delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Arch. Sunny Echono, on Friday, January 31.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the university’s recent achievements in Artificial Intelligence, which earned OOU the title of ‘AI School of the Year’ at the 2024 Data Science Nigeria (DSN) annual boot camp, along with a star prize of $1,000 worth of books.
“Two of our lecturers also emerged as joint winners of the inaugural Google Academic Research Awards for 2024. The award included a research grant of $60,000,” he added.
With a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.87, Aisha Aanuoluwapo Dauda of the Department of Economics was named the overall best-graduating student.
