In an effort to address the escalating food crisis in the country, the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, HIM Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has advised Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu to open Nigeria’s borders.
The paramount ruler emphasised the need for Tinubu to prioritize the importation of grains and building materials to establish a competitive market and curb the persisting inflation.
Oba Akanbi proposed a six-month period of border openness, excluding the Niger Republic border, to counteract local producers allegedly sabotaging the economy.
He urged the government to regulate the prices of essential commodities by restricting the export of locally produced items and encouraging importation for specific durations.
A statement released by Oluwo through his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, conveyed the urgency of government intervention in the face of soaring food prices.
The statement read, “The inflation of food items is killing and calling for urgent action by the government. All borders should be opened excluding Niger Républic to control the skyrocketing prices of goods.”

It further appealed to Bola Tinubu to authorize the importation of all food items, with the exception of genetically modified organisms (GMO) products, specifically lifting the ban on rice and various types of grains.
“Bola Tinubu should permit importation of all food items except GMO products. Ban must specially be lifted on importation of rice and all types of grains,” the statement added.
