Orji Uzor Kalu the senator representing Abia North senatorial district at the Nigeria Senate has three different projects which cost N398.8 million, facilitated by him and mishandled by the contractors chosen to execute them.
Kalu in his position, has influenced some projects in his constituency. Some of these projects have either been of substandard quality or have not been executed at all, which smacks of fraud, according to Tracka, a platform designed to track the implementation of government projects.
According to a report published by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) In 2023, the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) released N337 million to fund the construction of the 450-metre Umuaku Road in the Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.
In that same year, NBRRI commissioned Oxford Construction and Waste Management Ltd. to build another road in Umunneochi LGA, and a total of N27.1 million was released to the company to construct the road specifically in Arouika Community but when tracked by Track, it was report that the project has been abandoned.

Similarly, in March to Nov 2023, a total of N34.7m was paid to UNFURLS UMUEGEDE LIMITED for the Construction of 5km Ogwumabiri Road, Umunneochi LGA, Abia state. We tracked and report that this project has been done. Contrary to what was stated in the line item,
While the road was done, it failed the test of time within a short period. Some parts of the road have been peeling off.
