Victor Osimhen, Stanley Nwabali and Daniel Bameyi have been shortlisted for the 2025 CAF Awards, placing Nigeria firmly in the spotlight of African football honours.

The nominations were announced by the Confederation of African Football on Wednesday for the men’s categories.

Osimhen, who won a league and cup double with Galatasaray last season, returns to the top ten shortlist for African Player of the Year after missing out in the previous edition.

His strong performances for the Super Eagles, including a crucial role in securing a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 playoffs, contributed to his nomination.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United is in the running for Goalkeeper of the Year.

He will compete against South Africa’s Ronwen Williams and Cameroon’s Andre Onana for the award.

Nwabali was also nominated last year following his standout displays for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Daniel Bameyi, captain of Nigeria’s U20 side, has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award.

Bameyi impressed at the U20 AFCON and further enhanced his profile during the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

CAF also released nominees for other categories, including Coach of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, National Team of the Year and Club of the Year.

The awards will recognise performances between 6 January and 15 October 2025.

CAF said the shortlist was decided by a panel which included members of its Technical and Development Committee, experienced coaches, former players and selected journalists.

The ceremony will be held in Morocco later this year, although an exact date has not been announced.
