Osun State Issues 24-Hour Curfew on Two LGAs To Halt Communal Clash

Due to persistent communal confrontations, the Osun government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in the state’s local governments of Ifon and Ilobu, which are located in Orolu and Irepodun, respectively.

Kolapo Alimi, the state’s commissioner for information and public education, made this declaration in Osogbo on Friday.

The two local government areas have been at odds over a piece of land.

According to Mr. Alimi, the curfew was implemented to prevent a further collapse of law and order in the previously two law-abiding and tranquil neighborhoods.

According to him, Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered that the communities’ 24-hour curfew go into place right away.

He said, “To maintain a lasting peace and order, pending when the issues at hand will be amicably resolved, Governor Adeleke, in his executive capacity as the chief security officer of the state, has ordered the immediate takeover of the disputed lands/areas by his administration.

“In the same vein, the government has ordered that anyone or group of persons found or seen doing one thing or another on the disputed lands or areas will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

He further said, “Therefore, in strict compliance with the 24-hour curfew now imposed, there will be strict restriction of both human and vehicular movements in the affected areas and communities until otherwise directed by the governor.””

To ensure peace and close monitoring, he said the securities officers, e.g., the Army, the police, and the like, are informed and involved.
