Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has assured the people of Aba that the ongoing road projects in the city will be completed on schedule and praised the contractor, Julius Berger, for the quality of work done so far.
The Governor, who spoke to a large crowd of residents during an inspection tour of the roads at the weekend, said he was satisfied with the progress made on Port Harcourt Road, Old Court Road, Ndoki Road and Omuma Road.
He said he had been informed by Julius Berger that the strategic Port Harcourt Road, which had been in a deplorable state for years, would be ready for use by December 2024.
He also said that Omuma Road would be dualised and linked to other major roads in the city, such as Old Express Road, Cemetery Road and Osusu Road, adding that the relocation of the electricity line along the road would be completed soon to facilitate the construction work.
He urged the people of Aba to cooperate with the contractor and the government to ensure the smooth and timely completion of the projects. He also advised them to maintain good sanitary habits and avoid littering the roads.

“We will like to assure you that very, very soon all these roads will be commissioned for use. The contractor has also told me that you people have been very kind to them, giving them water, giving them drinks and some of you are cooking and bringing to them. This is the way it should be. If you cooperate with government, government will cooperate with you.
“So, one more thing, I will like to plead with our people, because this road has been in disuse for a long time, people have become used to littering everywhere. So, I want to appeal to you in advance because as we complete these roads, we are not going to tolerate litter. We are providing bins for households, so you will have somewhere to drop your litter and then we will come twice in a day to cart them away,” the Governor said.
