We Must Strive to Do Something New and Meaningful for Our People — Says Gov Otti as He Inaugurates Civil Service, Disability Commissions

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has inaugurated the Civil Service Commission, the Abia State Commission for the Welfare of Disabled Persons, and the Abia State House of Assembly Commission.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, also saw the swearing-in of special advisers to the governor on education and investment promotion.

Addressing the newly appointed officials, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of fairness and accountability in their roles. He urged them to transcend local interests and serve the entire state with diligence and impartiality.

He stated, ”You must resist the temptation to be parochial or provincial in the execution of the functions of our respective offices. You may have come from one community, but as an official of the Abia State Government, your constituency is the whole of Abia.”

The governor also expressed his determination to fulfil his campaign promises and ensure that available resources were efficiently used to meet governance objectives in critical areas of need.

“We certainly cannot accomplish everything in one day but we must strive to see that there is something new and meaningful to report each time we face the people, as it is inevitable in a democracy. What makes us different is that we are running a government that is 100 per cent accountable to the people of the state and God.

Governor Otti reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption within his administration, warning that any official found engaging in corrupt practices would face swift consequences, including possible legal action.

“For clarity, let the warning be given in advance that once we establish any case of self-serving activities that go against the values we subscribe to as a government. We shall be left with no option but to ask you to leave and perhaps hand you over to the law enforcement agencies for further investigations,” Otti added.
