Governor Otti Inaugurates Visitation Panel for Abia State University

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has inaugurated a nine-member visitation panel to review the records and structures of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), from 2019 to 2023.

The panel, which was sworn in on Tuesday at the Government House, Umuahia, is chaired by Prof. Steve Okorodudu, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt. Other members of the panel include Prof. Rose Nwabueze, Prof. Mrs. Abiola Awosika-Fapetu, Dr. Sonny Ajala, SAN, Prof. Ngozi Osarenren, Prof. Nnenna Oyidie Okeh, Mr. Emmanuel Okpechi, FCA, Dr. Confidence Ogbonna, and Mr. Dodoh Okafor, who serves as the secretary.

The panel is tasked with making recommendations that will restore ABSU to its rightful place as a centre of genuine excellence in university education in the country and beyond. The panel has 90 days to complete its assignment and submit its report to the governor.

Governor Otti said the panel was carefully selected based on their professional experience and competence in the field of education. He urged all the stakeholders of ABSU, including the management, staff, students, alumni, and the general public, to cooperate with the panel and provide them with the necessary information and support.

The panel has 90 days to complete its assignment and submit its report to me,” he wrote on his X page.

He also expressed his commitment to ensuring that ABSU regains its glory as a model for excellence in research and innovation. He said this was in line with his vision of resetting Abia to become the number one state in the country.

He thanked the chairman and members of the panel for accepting the important assignment and wished them success in their work.

ABSU is one of the state-owned universities in Nigeria, established in 1981. It has two campuses, its main campus in Uturu and the College of Law, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Umuahia.
