Governor Alex Otti has inaugurated the Ofali Agwu Smart School in Amaekpu Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area, as part of efforts to promote digital learning in Abia State.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, Mr Otti stated that the government is committed to transforming public schools into model institutions, with plans to surpass the standards of private schools in the state.
He disclosed ongoing initiatives to introduce digital learning tools and teaching aids across public schools in Abia.
The governor also highlighted a digital training programme for public school teachers aimed at equipping them with ICT skills to meet the growing demand for a digitally proficient workforce.
The project, facilitated by Ibe Osonwa, the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency, received support from stakeholders and development partners.
Mr Osonwa described the smart school as equipped with state-of-the-art interactive digital screens, cameras, and tools that enable students to revisit lessons and participate remotely.

He emphasised the global importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in education and noted that teachers in the school had received comprehensive training to use the technology effectively.
The initiative, according to Mr Otti, will be replicated across the state to improve the quality of education and prepare students for a technology-driven world.
