Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved an extension for the work of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the Recovery of Government Properties, Funds, and related matters, to address areas that have not yet been covered.
The Governor granted this approval while receiving the panel’s final report at Nvosi, in Isiala Ngwa South LGA.
He explained that since there were still petitions that had not been investigated, the panel should be given more time to look into those areas, rather than ending its work prematurely.
Otti, who mentioned that he had previously received the interim report, expressed his belief that the final report is just as comprehensive as the interim version. He also thanked the members of the Judicial Panel for their bravery in resisting attempts to undermine their efforts.
He extended his gratitude to the Panel’s Chair, Justice Florence Duruoha Igwe, and her team for their excellent work, assuring them that the government would take the report’s recommendations seriously and implement them fully.
“I can assure you that we are going to take this report very seriously and we are going to implement it to the letter.
“I want to reassure you that none of your recommendations will be swept under the carpet,” Otti said.
Governor Otti further revealed that some individuals invited by the panel, who had unlawfully acquired government property, have begun returning these items to the government. He urged others who have not yet complied to do so promptly, warning that the government would take action against them if they fail to act.

Earlier, while submitting the three-volume report to the Governor, the Chair of the Panel of Inquiry, Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe, stated that the panel received 350 petitions and memoranda and held 99 sittings.
She explained that the panel was able to conclude its findings on various areas of its assignment, including markets, land, employment, movable properties, contracts, and other related matters.
She urged the Governor to implement the recommendations made in the report.
DAILY POST recalls that the panel recovered vehicles, a bus for a tertiary institution, and other properties from former state government officials and politicians.
