Otti Suspends Health Commissioner Over Alleged Gross Misconduct, Orders Probe

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved the suspension of the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo.

The suspension was announced on Tuesday by Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, in an official statement.

The statement explained that Dr. Okoronkwo was suspended to facilitate an investigation into allegations of gross misconduct against him.

Kanu noted that the suspension aligns with Governor Otti’s strict policy of zero tolerance for any form of misconduct and his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

The measure is intended to ensure that the actions of all appointees consistently promote the welfare and well-being of the people of Abia.

Kanu said, “The Abia State Government is committed to good governance and the rule of law under which persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

“Consequently, the administration is painstaking in investigating and establishing facts of infractions or misconduct uncovered by its internal monitoring and feedback system.

“In the  light of these developments, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Ifeyinwa Kalu, will collaborate with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Azodo, to run the affairs of the Ministry in the interim, pending the outcome of further investigations into the allegations against Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo.”
