The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Staff Welfare Association (ISWA) in Abia state has declared that the victory of Alex Otti in the March 18 Governorship poll was a result of the overwhelming demand of the people.
During an interactive session at the group’s annual general meeting, ISWA chairman, Collins Eze, emphasized that INEC could not have influenced the outcome, stating, “There is nothing we can do because Otti was the person Abia people demanded.”
He affirmed that the 2023 governorship election in Abia was conducted “free and fair,” with INEC staff refusing to tamper with the results.
Eze, detailing his three-year stewardship, highlighted significant achievements, including the completion of the association’s secretariat and a memorandum of understanding with the Federal Mortgage Bank for staff loans.
The association’s acting administrative secretary, Kingsley Onyeri, commended INEC staff for ensuring “free, fair, and credible elections.” He urged members to continue promoting cordial relationships within INEC and maintain conduct that uplifts the commission’s image.
