Some Provisions of Nigerian Constitution Are Fatally Flawed — Oby Ezekwesili Laments

Former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili has lamented that the Nigerian constitution has flaws in some of its provisions.

Ezekwesili stated that there’s a lop sidedness of centralisation in taking decisions which has negatively affected the optimal utilisation of scarce resources.

She made this statement while speaking during an interview program on Arise TV on Friday.

In her words , “From what we have seen so far, there is no need to continue to tinker on the margin of this constitution. Our constitution is fatally flawed in some of the provisions.

“There’s a lop sidedness of centralisation. The centralized approach to solving problems that can be solved at decentralized and disaggregated basis is a nightmare for performance. It is a nightmare for optimization in the use of scarce resources.

“So we said stop tinkering on the margin. You can do something different to move the society to this kind of a national conversation backed by law that then lead toward a set of issues that we’re solving from.

“In that process what we should do is a single issue amendment. Do a single issue amendment for the constitution to allow for a process that will lead to a constitutional making approach that is representative of the various layers and levels of the issues and the factors that are creating the biggest bottleneck to Nigeria’s greatness.

“Now if we want to be a really growth country, we have to envision how to be that,” she added.
