The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt Rev’d Dr Samuel Ike, has launched a scathing attack on Nigeria’s political class, accusing them of being “heartless” and “without conscience” while the country reels from insecurity, kidnappings, and economic hardship.
In a viral video clip that has garnered over 40,000 views in less than 24 hours, Bishop Ike, speaking from the pulpit, did not mince words:“These people are heartless. They don’t have conscience.
Nigeria is bleeding, people are being kidnapped every day, people are suffering, yet what concerns them is 2027 – how they will come back to power.”
The cleric accused politicians of focusing solely on retaining or regaining power while deliberately neglecting the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
“They are not thinking of how to make life easy for the citizens,” he continued. “All they are thinking is how to come back in 2027.

That is their preoccupation. And they are ready to kill, to steal, to rig – anything – just to come back to power.”
The video, originally shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @dammiedammie35, has sparked widespread reaction online, with many Nigerians echoing the bishop’s frustration and praising his boldness.
Some expressed fear that speaking out could put the cleric at risk.
Bishop Ike’s outburst comes amid growing clerical criticism of the government.

Earlier in 2025, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria had similarly condemned the rising wave of violence and corruption, calling for urgent constitutional reforms.
As Nigeria battles persistent insecurity in multiple regions, rampant inflation, and a deepening cost-of-living crisis, voices from the pulpit are increasingly joining the chorus demanding accountability from those in power.
