Parallel Facts Begins Campus Journalism Cohort Program for Students in Nigerian Universities

Parallel Facts News, Nigeria’s leading online news platform, has kicked off its second batch of training for students in Nigerian universities studying journalism-related courses. The program, which is aimed at exposing the participants to on-the-field experience and exposure, is scheduled to last for 60 days.

The Parallel Facts Journalism Cohort Program 2.0 is part of the Parallel Facts Media Group’s plans to execute its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program for young Nigerians aspiring to become professionals in the field of journalism in the near future. The program is also tailored to drive the Parallel Facts “Citizens Journalism” approach and give student participants the opportunity to tell their stories unfiltered, and cover underserved constituency in the media space.

The Director of Operations, Parallel Facts Media Group, Mr Otunba Daniel, while commenting on the exercise, implored participants to seize the opportunity to learn, relearn and unlearn. He admonished them to be at their best and ensure they become better than they were before they joined the journalism cohort program.

The Editor-in-Chief and Chief Facilitator of the program, Mr Adamu S. Deco, was excited about the prospects and gains of the previous program and the potential benefits of the ongoing training for participants. He said “our flagship student journalism cohort program had 7 participants registering and 3 participants eventually completed the program, today, we have immersed them into our operations and have upgraded them as regular staff. This ongoing cohort program has over 15 participants with amazing talents and skills, and I believe with the training they are receiving, they will become trail blazers in the field of journalism in the near future.

Participants at the training who spoke to our correspondence were excited about the opportunity to horn their skills in journalism and gain on the field experience while they pursue their university education.

Isama Peace, a University of Jos student and one of the participant said, “The training session for me has been amazing. I learned that is not just about bearing the name “Journalist” but it is about giving the public credible information.”

Another participant, Kayode Joshua, a student of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State thanked the management of Parallel Facts for conceiving the idea and program. he said, “The Training has been so enlightening. It has exposed me to more knowledge on making a news, casting headlines, etc. I thank Parallel Facts for the opportunity”.

The program at its climax will train participants on investigative journalism, ethics in journalism, news reporting, Parallel Facts journalistic style, complex In house journalism training, news media in Africa as well as new trends in Online Journalism among others.
