In an act of bravery, passengers travelling through Zamfara State thwarted a kidnapping attempt by overpowering armed bandits, resulting in the death of one assailant and the seizure of two AK-47 rifles.
The incident unfolded along the Talata Mafara-Gusau highway, where the family of a bride-to-be and other travellers fell victim to a bandit ambush while en route to purchase wedding materials in Kano.
According to an eyewitness account shared with PRNigeria, the passengers acted spontaneously in response to the imminent threat posed by the bandits.
“After encountering two well-armed bandits blocking the road and halting vehicles, the terrified family members were coerced at gunpoint to follow the assailants into the nearby forest,” the eyewitness recounted.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, the passengers rallied together and launched a decisive attack on one of the bandits, resulting in his demise while the other managed to escape.
“The courageous group retrieved the two guns and emerged from the forest. They promptly handed the weapons over to the military at a nearby checkpoint,” the eyewitness added.
