Passengers Confused as Lagos-Abuja Flight Landed in Asaba

United Nigeria Airline flight NUA0504, originally bound for Abuja from Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, unexpectedly landed at Asaba International Airport in Delta State on Sunday.

The unexpected diversion was reportedly prompted by adverse weather conditions at the intended destination in the nation’s capital.

Passengers on board expressed shock at the turn of events, with some taking to social media to share their frustrations.

One passenger, @dawisu, vented his displeasure on his verified X handle, criticizing the airline for the apparent lack of accurate information.

Despite being aware of the diversion, passengers claimed that the cabin crew initially announced a landing in Abuja.

“We boarded a flight to Abuja, and the flight carry us to Asaba. They even announced, ‘we’re about to land at Abuja Airport’ Then boom! We are seeing Asaba Airport. United Nigeria Airline is just an anyhow airline,” he wrote.

Responding to the situation, the airline’s management, as conveyed by Achilleu-Chud Uchegbu, the Head of Corporate Communications, clarified in a statement that the announcement was mistakenly made.

Uchegbu also mentioned that the pilot of the aircraft was informed about the diversion and received proper briefing.

“However, a wrong announcement was made by the cabin crew upon landing safely in Asaba, creating confusion among the passengers.”

Nevertheless, he pointed out that the plane safely landed in Abuja due to an improvement in the weather at the destination.
