Nigerian Senators Busy Politicking Ahead of 2027 While US Congress Convened Hearing on Citizens’ Suffering Terror Attacks Under Tinubu — Pastor Tunde Bakare

The Lead Pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church, Tunde Bakare, has criticised Nigerian Senators for prioritising political manoeuvring over addressing the country’s growing insecurity.

Speaking on Sunday during his State of the Nation Address in Lagos, Pastor Bakare condemned the National Assembly for its perceived inaction while citizens face escalating threats from bandits, terrorists, and criminal gangs.

“It is a shame on our National Assembly that it took the United States Congress, not the representatives elected by Nigerians, to convene a hearing on the lived experiences of citizens suffering under insecurity,” Bakare said.

“While those in Abuja were busy with politicking, posturing for political relevance, defecting from one political party to another in desperate manoeuvres to secure their seats ahead of the 2027 elections.”

The cleric also highlighted the contrasting response of foreign lawmakers, noting that the U.S. Congress recently held hearings to examine the security challenges and human suffering in Nigeria.

He described the contrast as deeply embarrassing, suggesting that Nigerian lawmakers have failed in their primary responsibility to protect and serve their constituents.

Bakare further alleged that the Nigerian leadership has been “burying its head in the sand like ostriches,” preoccupied with internal politicking rather than taking decisive steps to tackle terrorism and insecurity.

He argued that the recent flurry of government activity following international criticism only exposed the earlier indifference of the authorities.

Calling for urgent action, the cleric urged the government to prioritise security, ensure emergency patrols, and suspend large gatherings in areas prone to attacks. He emphasised that political gamesmanship should not take precedence over the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens.
