How Akwa-Ibom Gov, Pastor Eno, Spent N1.2 Billion On Entertainment in Nine Months; Zero Fund For Basic Education

A review of the Akwa-Ibom state’s budget performance documents under the administration of Pastor Umo Eno has shown that the state spent N1.2billion on entertainment at meetings in nine months.

The nine months under review are between January and September 2024.

This would mean that the state spent on the average, N141million monthly on entertainment at meetings between January and September 2024.

The development is even as the state’s ministry of science and technology spent only N1.6 million on its capital expenditure in the same period of time.

No money was spent on the capital expenditure of the state universal basic education board.

While the state spent N1.2 billion to entertain people at meetings, it only spent N1 billion for capital expenditure of health ministry in the state.

With N1.2 billion spent on entertainment at meetings, it would mean that the state spent nineteen times its earnings from direct assessment tax on entertainment.

This is as it earned N66million from direct assessment tax.

This move comes even as 70% of households in Akwa Ibom are said to lack access to sanitary facilities, another 64% are said to lack access to clean drinking water.
