PDP Appeals Ruling Sacking Ighodalo as Edo Gubernatorial Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appealed the court’s verdict invalidating and sacking of Asue Ighodalo the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Edo State.

The appeal was filed by the party National secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, having six correspondents including the People Democratic Party, INEC, The Vice Chairman, PDP South-South, among others.

It’s reads, “The appellant being dissatisfied with the decision more particularly stated in paragraph 2 hereof and contained in the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, holden at Abuja (Coram: Ekwo, J (hereinafter referred to as “lower Court) delivered on 4th July 2024 in SUIT NO: FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024, doth hereby appeal to the Court of Appeal upon the ground stated in.

This appeal came bearly a week after Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has voided the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship election in Edo State that produced Asue Ighodalo as its candidate.

Justice Ekwo held that both the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the PDP guidelines were violated in the conduct of the primary election at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Justice Ekwo nullified the primary election while delivering judgement in a suit instituted by Kelvin Mohammed.

He said the exclusion of the 381 delegates, including the plaintiffs, was against the provisions of the law.
