PDP Candidate Dino Melaye Accuses INEC and APC of Electoral Fraud in Kogi State

Dino Melaye

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ongoing Kogi State governorship election, Senator Dino Melaye, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of rigging the election in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of the state.

In a video he posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Melaye claimed that INEC officials arrived with already filled result sheets and refused to show other party agents plain result sheets that are supposed to be used for the election. He also alleged that security personnel were collaborating with the APC to compromise the election.

Melaye said that voters in the local government have boycotted the election and staged a protest across all the polling units, demanding plain result sheets and adherence to the provisions of the electoral laws. He urged his agents and supporters to resist any irregularity in the election and to record and expose any evidence of malpractice on social media platforms.

He said, “We must protect our votes. We must protect the process and we must make sure that all the regulations are being observed and respected. I call on all my agents across the state, that once the plain result sheets are not shown to you before the commencement of accreditation, don’t accredit, don’t vote, resist it and protest. This is democracy. We must overcome. This election is a must win for us.”

The Kogi State governorship election is being contested by 18 candidates. The top contenders are the APC candidate, Usman Ahmed Ododo, SDP’s Yakubu Muritala and Senator Dino Melaye of the PDP.
