The tension in Edo State has escalated following the abduction of Dr. Tony Aizegbemi, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The party confirmed the incident on Saturday, adding to the growing concerns over the security situation in the region.
According to eyewitnesses, Aizegbemi was taken while on a routine walk outside his residence.
The circumstances surrounding his abduction remain unclear, with neither the family nor the state chapter of PDP receiving any communication from the abductors at the time of reporting.
The incident comes amidst an apparent deepening of the rift between political factions within the state, particularly between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu.
