2027: PDP Chieftain Says Any Party With Peter Obi Already Holds 40% Votes, Urges His Return

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has declared that any political party that fields Peter Obi in 2027 already holds up to 40 per cent of the votes.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Ulasi stressed that Obi’s credibility and popularity would be a major boost for whichever platform he joins.

“I’ll be happy if he joins PDP because he will bring his credibility to bear on the party as we are reorganising. Any party that has him today will know they already have more than 30 to 40 per cent of the election because he has tremendous support across this country,” he said.

Ulasi argued that Obi’s political base is uncertain since he no longer has a clear platform after leaving the Labour Party.

“To the best of my knowledge, Peter Obi has no platform. He ran last time with the Labour Party; he has attended the launch of ADC. I don’t know what his platform will be,” he added.

The PDP stalwart also called for fairness in allocating the party’s ticket, saying the presidency has already been zoned to the South.

“If there is honesty, they should micro-zone it to the South-East because virtually now we are the only zone, theoretically speaking, that has not had a presidency,” he said.

He revealed that the PDP is now focusing on internal restructuring and rebuilding its strength ahead of the 2027 elections.

“In the last national executive meeting we had, almost seven of our governors were there. It was refreshing that everybody is now talking about how to reorganise the party and put it on a stronger footing for 2027 and other elections,” he said.

Obi, who was governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, served as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate on the PDP ticket in 2019.

He later abandoned the PDP in 2022 after withdrawing from its presidential primary and contested on the platform of the Labour Party, where his campaign drew massive youth support under the “Obidient Movement.”

In the 2023 polls, Obi finished third behind Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku of the PDP.
