The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and others from the party.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The motion for expulsion was moved by Chief Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman (South), and seconded by Hon Samaila Burga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi.

The expulsion comes amid ongoing factional disputes within the party.

A faction loyal to Wike had sought to stop the convention through the courts, but the party secured a judgment from a high court in Oyo State allowing the convention to proceed.

Days before the convention, Mao Ohabunwa, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Wike-led faction, described the Ibadan convention as a “jamboree,” warning delegates that the exercise would not be legally recognized.

Acting national chairman of the faction, Abdulrahman Muhammad, also urged delegates to stay away and wait for the appropriate time for party activities.

The expulsion marks a significant escalation in PDP’s internal struggle for leadership ahead of future elections.
