The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), of instigating the recent protests in Kano and Niger States.
The demonstrations, which erupted over the escalating cost of living, saw impassioned crowds taking to the streets, demanding action from the government.
APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, asserted that the protests were not spontaneous but rather orchestrated attempts by the opposition to undermine the credibility of the APC-led administration. Morka emphasized, “The protests in Minna and Kano on Monday were the manifestation of this devious and unpatriotic plot.”
Reacting to APC’s allegations, PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, countered that such protests are a democratic expression of dissatisfaction with the current economic climate. Abdullahi remarked, “If the issue at hand is a true reflection of the situation in the land, I don’t think it behooves the APC to start complaining about the people behind it.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, criticized the government’s disconnect from the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians. Ifoh emphasized, “It is not about the opposition parties orchestrating protests against the government. The work of the opposition is to remind the federal government that it is derailing and that a hungry man is an angry man.”
