PDP to Tinubu: Stop ‘Profligacy, Exploitation, Deceit’ Before You Ruin Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Tinubu to abandon what it described as economic recklessness and anti-people policies, warning that Nigeria’s future is being traded away through uncontrolled borrowing and massive looting under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Friday during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the PDP condemned the current administration’s alleged extravagance and corruption, blaming it for the deepening poverty, insecurity, and hopelessness experienced across the country.

“The Tinubu government must end their profligacy, exploitation, deceit, and manipulations that have brought untold hardship to Nigerians,” the PDP said.

The statement, signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, accused the APC-led government of mortgaging Nigeria’s future through massive loans with no tangible benefit to citizens. The opposition party noted that under the current regime, Nigerians face unprecedented hardship, while violence and insecurity continue to spiral.

“Our party is deeply disturbed by the pervading sense of gloom in the country; the worsening insecurity where our nation has become a large killing field with citizens left at the mercies of terrorists, bandits, and marauders; the unbearable economic hardship; and agonizing life-discounting experiences, all resulting from the reckless mismanagement of national resources by the insensitive APC administration,” the statement said.

Citing alleged financial misconduct, the PDP called on Tinubu to recover what it said was over ₦30 trillion looted by senior APC members through fraudulent oil transactions and diverted funds from public institutions.

“Instead, the APC government must take immediate step to recover the over N30 trillion reportedly stolen by known APC leaders through various fraudulent oil deals and other funds frittered from government agencies under the APC administration,” the party said.

It insisted that such stolen resources should be redirected towards reviving public infrastructure, boosting local production, and properly funding security operations across Nigeria.

The PDP also used the Eid celebration to call for hope, patience, and collective resilience, urging citizens not to lose faith in the country despite the prevailing hardship.

“The PDP charges Nigerians not to give up hope but remain patriotic, continue to share with one another at this trying time, and pray constantly for God’s divine intervention in the affairs of the nation.”

In a direct challenge to Tinubu, the opposition party called on him to use the remaining part of his presidency to reflect, amend course, and begin to act in the interest of the people.

“Our party therefore urges President Tinubu to use the remaining two years of his administration to redeem his image as a leader by being more sensitive towards the well-being of Nigerians in line with the demand for selflessness and submission to the Will and Command of the Almighty Allah, which the Eid-el-Kabir teaches.”
