Peru

Peru’s Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, has reportedly tendered his resignation following the release of audio recordings wherein he purportedly disclosed attempts to exploit his position for the benefit of a woman in securing substantial government contracts.

Denying any wrongdoing, Mr. Otárola, aged 57, faces allegations as an investigation into the matter has been initiated, according to the BBC’s report on Tuesday.

The recordings feature conversations between Mr. Otárola and Yaziré Pinedo, aged 25. Initially aired over the weekend on the Panorama program, the audio files allegedly capture discussions between the two individuals.

Mr. Otárola previously served as Peru’s Defence Minister until the conclusion of 2022, following President Dina Boluarte’s assumption of office.
