Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he intends to pursue a significant constitutional amendment if elected, with the aim of limiting Nigeria’s presidential term to just five years.
He disclosed this in a press conference held in Abuja on Monday.
During his address, Mr. Obi referenced the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld Bola Tinubu’s controversial victory in the last election, emphasizing the need for institutional reform and a reevaluation of the country’s political landscape.
“On the issue of a single term, we campaigned on the issue of restructuring and reform, and that would have included an amendment to make this Constitution be a workable and functional Constitution that would be productive for Nigerians. Included in that would have been the issue of single tenure.
“I would go for a five-year tenure, which would go for thirty years rotational.”
