Former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has expressed his sadness over the kidnapping of some passengers who were traveling to Abuja in public transportation buses.
In a tweet posted on Wednesday, Obi said that the passengers were abducted in Kogi State on Tuesday, and called for the urgent intervention of the government and relevant agencies to secure their release and improve the security situation in the country.
Obi also appealed to the perpetrators of the kidnappings and other violent crimes to have a change of heart and abandon such criminal acts, saying that they were adding to the woes of the nation.
He lamented that Nigeria was already facing the challenges of hunger and deep poverty, which were worsened by the widespread insecurity.
He said that the government must evolve more serious and innovative strategies for dealing with the climate of insecurity, and that the citizens must not tolerate such a level of insecurity now or in the future.
He expressed his solidarity with the families of the kidnapped victims, and urged Nigerians to unite in efforts towards their safe release and better security for the country.
