The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has Offered an additional N10 million to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala after the hospital management reported an overpayment of N2.5 million from a previous pledge.
Obi had initially pledged N20 million to the hospital and 15 other medical institutions, which he redeemed in installments.
During his visit to the hospital on the weekend, Obi presented the check for the additional donation, reaffirming his commitment to supporting health and educational institutions across the state.
Obi stated, “Today, in furtherance of my unwavering commitment to critical and measurable areas of development—health, education, and lifting people out of poverty, I visited Our Lady of Lourdes College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala.
“During my visit, I took stock of their progress and was pleased to witness the positive outcomes of our ongoing support. Earlier this year, I donated N20 million to aid their efforts, and in recognition of their commendable work, I made an additional donation of N10 million today.”
Earlier, the CEO of the hospital, Rev. Fr. Onuorah Ugochukwu, revealed that Obi had accidentally overpaid the hospital’s school of nursing by N2.5 million.
The priests said, “He (Obi) had pledged N20 million to 16 medical institutions, paying in instalments, but our hospital received N2.5 million extra.
“We initially thought it was an isolated mistake until other institutions reported the same. When I contacted him about the error, he was pleased with the integrity shown, and today he is here again.”
Obi emphasised the importance of transparency and announced that all institutions that reported overpayment would receive an additional N10 million each.
