A True Leader Does Not Make Excuses, He Makes Sacrifices, Takes Risk—Peter Obi Knocks Tinubu Over Suspension of Yelewata Visit Due to ‘Bad Roads’

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has criticised Bola Tinubu for suspending his scheduled visit to Yelewata in Benue State over what he described as the flimsy excuse of bad road conditions.

Obi, in a post on his X handle, stated that one consistent principle of leadership is the willingness to make ultimate sacrifices and take risks.

He noted that a true leader will not make excuses; rather, a true leader will shun excuses, show up, sacrifice, and provide solutions, especially in difficult times.

Obi remarked that he cannot accept the excuse that the bad road made him halt his visit to Yelewata, especially when he had already made it to the state.

He maintained that Tinubu’s visit happened days after the massacre, which would have provided him enough time to plan for the visit.

His words, “One of the consistent principles of leadership is the willingness to make ultimate sacrifices and take risks.

“A true leader does not make excuses or complain; he shows up, sacrifices, and provides solutions, especially in difficult times.

“While I do not advocate for our President to expose himself to monumental risks, I cannot accept the excuse that bad roads prevented him from reaching Yelwata in Benue State—especially after he had already made it to the state.

“This visit happened days after the massacre, with enough time to plan appropriately,” he said.
