Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party has knocked Bola Ahmed Tinubu for not returning to Nigeria after a 14-day trip abroad.
In a statement released on X handle, Obi expressed concern over the absence of both the Tinubu and Shettima from the country, emphasizing that this situation is particularly troubling given the multitude of domestic issues Nigeria faces.
He argued that while there may be no formal vacancy in the presidency, the lack of leadership presence at this critical time is alarming.
Obi pointed out that the Tinubu had promised to return within the 14 day but has yet to do so, which questions about his commitment to addressing the pressing challenges facing the nation.
He questioned why Tinubu could not have attended the event himself, considering the proximity of Paris to Stockholm or send delegates instead of delegating Shettima at this crucial time.

He however criticized the apparent lack of fiscal responsibility in the Tinubu’s decision-making, arguing that it reflects poorly on the leadership during a period of severe economic hardship for many Nigerians. “This does not represent the kind of fiscal responsibility and common sense that is expected of leaders whose people are facing severe hunger and poverty,” he said.
Obi further, emphasized that leadership requires prioritizing the well-being of the people and the effective management of scarce resources as a renewed commitment to true leadership that prioritizes the needs of the citizens and emphasizes the importance of responsive governance.
