In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Holy Rosary College, Nsugbe, Anambra State, Peter Obi has pledged ₦120 million in support of the sisters’ educational and humanitarian initiatives.
The event also coincided with the centenary celebration of the Holy Rosary Sisters, who have dedicated 100 years to improving education, healthcare, and empowering individuals since their founding by Bishop Joseph Shanahan in 1924.
Obi joined the students of Holy Rosary College in worship as part of the anniversary celebration and reflected on the transformative work of the Holy Rosary Sisters over the last century.
He praised their work in uplifting communities through education and healthcare, urging them to continue their mission with the same unwavering dedication.
Out of the ₦120 million Obi pledged, ₦100 million will be channeled through the Sisters’ headquarters in Enugu. This sum will support their ongoing efforts in education, healthcare, and humanitarian work, including the construction of facilities in Nsukka.
Obi emphasized the importance of their mission, which he described as a crucial tool in combating poverty and providing hope to underprivileged individuals across Nigeria.
The remaining ₦20 million will be allocated directly to Holy Rosary College, Nsugbe. He noted that this amount is intended to redeem a previously signed cheque he issued during his tenure as governor.
His contributions to the education sector have been consistent, both during and after his governorship. He reiterated his firm belief that education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation are key to Nigeria’s development, stressing that continuous investment in these areas is essential for progress.
Obi encouraged them to continue serving all Nigerians without discrimination, as they have always done.
However, he lauded their discipline, service, and unity, which he said are critical values in building a better society.
