Peter Obi Slams Extravagant Budget Allocation, Reveals Shocking N20.5 Billion for Vice President’s Residence

In a scathing critique of recent budget provisions, Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate and former governor of Anambra State, voiced deep concerns over the allocation of funds amidst pressing national issues through his verified X (Twitter) handle.

Obi, who expressed dismay at the revelation of a staggering N15 billion budget provision for the construction of a new residence for the Vice President, calling it “shocking and disheartening.”

During his analysis, He highlighted the redundancy of such allocations, citing the existing allocations of N2.5 billion for the renovation of the Vice President’s residence in Abuja and an additional N3 billion for renovation in Lagos. “If we total all these sums, we would have budgeted the sum of N20.5 billion for the housing of the Vice President at this critical time,” remarked Obi.

Drawing attention to the nation’s precarious economic situation, Obi emphasized the stark contrast between the allocated funds and the escalating poverty levels, collapsed health facilities, and rampant unemployment.

He underscored the disparity by noting that the proposed budget for the Vice President’s housing equates to the annual salary of approximately 3000 university professors, funds that could otherwise address crucial issues such as education and healthcare.

In his call for leadership that mirrors past examples of sacrifice, Obi referenced the principled decision of the late General Murtala Mohammed, who declined a presidential mansion and directed the construction of housing for civil servants.

Obi concluded by urging current leaders to demonstrate compassion and fiscal responsibility for the collective progress and development of the nation.
