Peter Obi Suitable Choice for 2027 Election; Without Him, Coalition is Powerless — Okon Lagos Tells ADC

Nigerian comedian and actor, Ime Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, has declared Peter Obi as the most suitable candidate to lead the opposition coalition in the 2027 presidential election, warning that without Obi’s influence, the alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) lacks the strength to challenge Bola Tinubu.

According to a report, the National Opposition Coalition Group comprises high-profile politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, and Gabriel Suswam of Benue, among others.

As part of its structure, the coalition appointed former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman of the ADC, with former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola serving as interim national secretary.

Although Peter Obi is aligned with the coalition, he has not formally declared membership of the ADC.

In a statement shared via his Instagram page on Thursday, the 41-year-old actor described the alliance as a mix of unlikely political partners. He went on to characterise it as a coalition of sidelined political actors and disillusioned loyalists of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

He further noted that the coalition includes northern elites who feel marginalised under President Tinubu’s current administration.

“The coalition is a synthesis of out-of-favour politicians, disgruntled Buharists and seemingly marginalised politically entitled northerners.

“Their circumstantial unity is to one end: the ouster from office, a common enemy which is Mr President,” Okon of Lagos said.

The actor emphasised that the coalition must acknowledge Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, as the most fitting choice to lead them in the forthcoming election.

He added that without Obi’s influence and energy, the alliance could struggle to gain the momentum needed for success.

“In all they do, they (the coalition) should realise that they are like a very big and attractive manhood, and Peter Obi is their erection.”

Using a vivid analogy, the actor remarked, “A big manhood is useless without the capacity to be erect! Meanwhile, this is not about manhood and erections!”

While former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party, he explained that his involvement in the opposition coalition is part of a broader effort to “build bridges to dismantle” the deep-rooted systems of poverty and insecurity in Nigeria.

Obi emphasised that his decision to join the coalition reflects his strong dedication to the nation’s advancement.

He further noted that the alliance is focused on offering Nigeria competent, capable, and compassionate leadership.
