Nigerians are questioning the whereabouts of the petrol that the Buhari administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed was discovered in Bauchi and Gombe states two years ago.
The skepticism comes after the initial excitement surrounding the announcement, which promised job opportunities and environmental improvements for local communities.
Back in 2022, community leaders and residents in Bauchi and Gombe celebrated what they called a “new dawn” as President Muhammadu Buhari supervised the first oil drill in Northern Nigeria.
At that time, they expressed hope that the development would lead to job creation and a roadmap for a cleaner environment.
Local leaders urged the president and other stakeholders to ensure that their communities were included in recruitment, decision-making, compensation, and other benefits arising from the discovery.
However, two years later, many are left wondering about the promised benefits. Nigerians are now asking, “Where is the petrol?” as reports of any significant developments have yet to surface.
Many Nigerians took to social media with frustration to question the unfulfilled promises and lack of transparency regarding the oil discovery.
A Nigerian on Twitter who tweeted as @Shehusky questioned, “Where is the petroleum Buhari claimed have been discovered in Bauchi, Northern Nigeria? It shall never be well with APC.”
“They used 3.1bn for oil exploration, money gone, ” Shehusky added.
“Na shady business him criminally engaged with his notorious cronies,” Another netizen, @mpaezenwa stated.
“It’s in the reserved tank. When the politicians want to steal big money, they embark on big projects , e.g 15Trillion coastal highway,” @Sebs added to critic politicians.
However, another Nigerian, @Abiodun wrote, “419 and Yahoo Yahoo men in government. APC is an ASSOCIATION of POLITICAL CRIMINALS.”
