Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, is set to officially announce his bid for the governorship on Monday, November 27, at Eterno Hotels, 8 a.m., according to a letter from the Philip Shaibu Campaign Organisation.

In a statement to the press, Shaibu emphasized the urgent need for practical governance, stating, “Edo people are in dire need of practical governance, and we cannot afford to experiment again with someone who does not understand the politics and needs of Edo State.”

The deputy governor, currently estranged from his principal Governor Godwin Obaseki, faced a previous confrontation when he sought legal protection against impeachment. Although the case was withdrawn, tensions persist, with Shaibu now operating from an office outside the Government House.

Shaibu’s campaign preparations are in full swing, with a campaign office established along Airport Road, campaign vehicles arriving, and advanced consultations with political stakeholders.

Addressing concerns about competence and experience, Shaibu remarked, “Competence and experience should be the watchword. Who is competent, more experienced, and who will hit the ground running from day one if he becomes governor?”

Stay tuned for more developments as he declares officially on Monday.
