Plateau State has been experiencing attacks by terrorists, that have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands of people.

The state government imposed a 24-hour curfew in Mangu Local Government Area on January 23, 2024, following a violent incident that resulted in the burning of churches.

The Middle Belt region of Nigeria, where Plateau State is located, has been plagued by various forms of insecurity, including militant Islamist groups, communal conflicts, banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling.

According to a recent study, there were 1,412 incidents of conflict and 7,399 deaths in the region in the last decade.

The federal government has deployed the military and other security agencies to tackle the security challenges in the region, but the situation remains volatile and unpredictable.

Some analysts have called for more dialogue, reconciliation, and development interventions to address the root causes of the violence.
