“Poland Ready to Host ‘Nuclear’ Weapons to Counter Russia,” Says President

Poland’s president has stated that the NATO member is ready to host nuclear weapons of other alliance members in response to Russia’s move of its nuclear weapons to neighbouring Belarus.

President Andrzej Duda made these statements in an interview on Monday in the Fakt tabloid.

Duda highlighted Russia’s alleged recent movement of nuclear weapons to Belarus, referencing President Alexander Lukashenko’s announcement in December.

He expressed Poland’s readiness to host nuclear weapons as part of NATO’s nuclear sharing arrangement to enhance the security of the alliance’s eastern flank if such a decision were made by allied nations.

Duda emphasized Poland’s awareness of its commitments within the 32-member alliance, including the United States.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who shares Duda’s stance on national security, later stated the need for urgent discussions on this proposal.

Duda has previously expressed Poland’s willingness to participate in NATO’s nuclear sharing program.

NATO’s nuclear sharing involves the United States providing nuclear weapons for deployment and storage in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey.
