The Imo State Police Command has arrested some suspects who allegedly killed a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and an inspector in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
The officers were murdered on November 27, 2023 at Ahiara junction by elements suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed militia security network.
The State Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, the state capital, over the weekend.
He said the arrest was made possible by the joint operation of the force, the Joint Task Force (JTF), and troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, who stormed the IPOB/ESN camp at Umuohie in Ngor Okpala LGA of the state on November 29, 2023.
Aboki said the security operatives dislodged several hoodlums and recovered various arms and ammunition from them.

He also said some other criminals were nabbed for different offences such as armed robbery, murder, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The police commissioner stated that a total of 18 assault rifles, five AK-47 rifles, six pump actions, and 359 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects, along with six vehicles, motorcycles, charms, military camouflage, police, and other incriminatory items.
He described the arrest of the suspects as a breakthrough in the fight against crime and insecurity in the state. He assured the public that the police would continue to work hard to ensure the safety and peace of the people of Imo State.
