The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed they arrested whistle-blower Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, widely known as PIDOM, for allegedly leaking classified documents and committing cyber-related offenses.
PIDOM, who has gained a reputation for exposing corruption involving federal and state governments, security agencies, and private companies, was arrested on August 5, 2024, in a hotel room in Rivers State by officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
The arrest was confirmed by the NPF spokesman, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Saturday.
Adejobi stated that PIDOM was apprehended on charges of committing severe offenses that threaten the integrity of government operations. The allegations against PIDOM include unlawful possession and leakage of classified documents, as well as other cyber-related crimes.
The statement reads, “In a well-coordinated effort, officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) apprehended Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, on allegations of committing serious offenses that undermine the integrity of government operations. The arrest took place on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room Rivers State.
“There are several allegations levelled against the suspect, including unlawful possession, leakages of classified documents, cyber related offences, and others. We will do due diligence in carrying out thorough investigation into the cases.
“The force will leave no stone unturned to continually enforce the law and bequeath to Nigerians a more secure nation,” the statement added.
