The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman, has announced plans to withdraw police personnel from VIP security duties.
The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to optimize the deployment of police resources and enhance the security of the general public. The decision underscores the government’s commitment to prioritize public safety and security over individual VIP protection.
Minister Sulaiman made the announcement during a press conference in Abuja, stating that the decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with key stakeholders in the security sector. She emphasized that the primary duty of the police is to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and uphold the rights and freedoms of all citizens.
The Minister acknowledged that while VIPs have legitimate security concerns, it is crucial to strike a balance between these needs and the broader security requirements of the nation. She assured that alternative security arrangements would be put in place for VIPs, without compromising the security of the general public.
The decision to withdraw police personnel from VIP security duties is expected to free up a significant number of police officers for redeployment to frontline policing duties. This move is anticipated to enhance the police force’s capacity to respond to security challenges more effectively and efficiently.
