A 21-year-old man was reportedly shot by officers of the Nigerian Police at the FO1 Kubwa Sokale checkpoint in Abuja after allegedly refusing to pay a N200,000 bribe.
According to family sources who disclosed it on X, the incident occurred around 6:40 pm on November 9, 2024, when five armed officers surrounded the young man, accusing him of involvement in “Yahoo crime,” a label often associated with internet fraud.
When he attempted to flee, sensing he was in danger, police reportedly opened fire, leaving him injured in a ditch before dispersing under the assumption that he was dead.
The victim, who sustained a broken left leg but miraculously escaped the bullet, was later rushed to a hospital where he is now fighting for his life.
Images of his injured leg and X-ray results reveal the severity of his condition, with visible fractures and significant blood loss.

Family members expressed relief that he survived but remain distressed over the brutality of the incident and the reluctance of authorities to take action.
Despite attempts by the family to report the incident to the relevant authorities, they have received little support, with responses downplaying the incident as a matter of “thank God he’s alive.”
Frustrated and seeking justice, the family has appealed to the public and activists on social media to raise awareness and demand accountability, urging key figures like @thatverydarkman and @HarrisonBbi18 to intervene in their quest for justice.
