Nigeria Police Withdraw Escorts Assigned to Lagos State Speaker, Meranda

All police escorts assigned to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, as well as those stationed at the Assembly complex, have been withdrawn immediately.

Reports indicate that the unexpected removal of security personnel has left both the Speaker and the legislative building exposed, raising alarms about the safety of government officials and the Assembly premises.

The Speaker’s Special Adviser on Information, Victor Ganzallo, has confirmed the development, expressing serious concern over the sudden decision and warning that it could leave Meranda vulnerable to possible threats.

“As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own,” Ganzallo stated.

He further emphasized the potential risk posed by the lack of security.

According to Ganzallo, “The Speaker is now vulnerable and open to attack. This is an unprecedented situation that requires urgent resolution.”

Despite the gravity of the situation, neither the Lagos State Police Command nor the state government has provided an official explanation for the withdrawal of security details.

This comes just hours after reports suggesting that Meranda might step down from her position, but only during a plenary session.

According to sources who spoke with Vanguard, Meranda is determined to adhere to due process and will only resign during a plenary session when the House reconvenes.
